Home Health Care Workers Need State's Help
Lori Ames, Home Healthcare Workers of America's secretary-treasurer, penned a piece featured in the Wednesday, 6/3/20 edition of Times Union, bringing much needed public awareness to home health care’s current funding crisis. The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the high risks to the elderly, particularly those in nursing homes. Despite this, home health care workers have been relegated far behind hospitals and nursing homes for federal and state funding and personal protective equipment. State legislation sponsored by Sen. Gustavo Rivera, D-Bronx, and Assembly Member Richard Gottfried, D-Manhattan (S.8361/A.10451), would address this by providing reimbursement to providers for PPE not currently covered under Medicare.
